The University of Notre Dame – Notre Dame, Indiana

Elkhart, Indiana

Located east of South Bend, Elkhart is one of the most innovative, entrepreneurial communities in America. Elkhart is the RV Capital of the World, headquarters to international corporations, and the birthplace of Alka- Seltzer and innovations in electronics and band instruments. Elkhart County boasts more patents than any other Hoosier county outside the state capital. A friendly, hometown community in the heart of Amish Country.

Getting to South Bend

South Bend is 10 miles south of the Michigan state line and is easily accessible from the Indiana Toll Road Interstate 80/90 as well as U.S. highways 6, 20, 31 and State Roads 2, 4, 23, 104, 331 and 933. South Bend International Airport is host to several rental car companies, taxi and limousine services.

Fly into South Bend
The South Bend International Airport (SBN) is located 10 minutes from downtown South Bend and provides nonstop flights to ten different destinations with connections worldwide, making you “one stop away from anywhere in the world.” It is the only airport in the United States to offer air, intercity rail (South- Shore Line) and interstate bus service (Coach USA, Greyhound) all from one convenient location.

*Coach USA offers service to and from O’Hare and Midway Airports to South Bend, Mishawaka, and the University of Notre Dame campus.

The South Shore Line is an electric train line connecting the South Bend International Airport to downtown Chicago! Daily trips during the weekdays and weekends, with cities throughout northwest Indiana with a final destination of downtown Chicago.

Amtrak connects South Bend to major cities including Toledo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston and Washington D.C. via the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited.

South Bend Climate & Weather

As with any Midwestern state, spring is a breath of fresh air after a chilly winter, and Indiana is no exception. Spring is the season when anything can happen in South Bend! With the earlier months experiencing the occasional snow fall, temperatures typically warm up through mid-April to reach 50’s and 60’s. Sunshine is a frequent occurrence and always a welcomed one!
